The Job: The incumbent is responsible for the development and revision of relevant and up-to-date academic programmes and courses and the recruitment, motivation and assessment of qualified faculty in the delivery of UWI-ROYTEC’s programmes. The Director-Academic Services is also responsible for overseeing the Library Services of UWI-ROYTEC.
The primary responsibilities would include:
- Recruitment and selection of faculty in consultation with the Manager-Human Resources and in accordance with the institution’s recruitment policies
- Liaising with Subject Heads in the implementation of teaching and learning
- Liaising with and evaluating faculty in respect of preparation of course outlines and course delivery
- Administration of assessment instruments to programme and course applicants who do not meet normal matriculation requirements, in order to determine their competency in computational and language skills
- Advising Manager – Registry Services on the admission of applicants who, not having met normal matriculation requirements, have undergone the Institution’s assessment in computation and language skills
- Take the lead in screening examination papers to ensure consistency of examinations and syllabus coverage
- Student selection and admission in accordance with established policy guidelines and in consultation with the Executive Director and Admissions Committee
- Be responsible for academic advising of students
- Interfacing with UNB and other franchisors on course/programme scheduling and delivery
- Participating in the development of student regulations
- Providing support to the Registry Unit in the preparation of the Student Handbook and administration of the regulations contained therein
- Preparing the Faculty Handbook and administering the regulations contained therein
- Determining the organization’s needs in respect of teaching aids and other pedagogical requirements
- Liaising with Subject Heads and the Librarians to ensure that the preparation of booklists and the ordering of books are effective and efficient
- Establishing effective communication channels and the maintenance of effective relationships between students and faculty
- Preparing and controlling divisional budgets and expenditure
- Serving on UWI-ROYTEC Academic Council and Board appointed Committees
- Supervising staff reporting to this position
- Working closely with the Manager-Registry Services, Manager-Quality Assurance and Programme Development, Manager- Student Welfare and the Manager- New Business Development to ensure sustainable intake and retention of students to matriculation.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should possess:
- At least a Master’s degree in Education, the Social Sciences or a related discipline
- Seven (7) – ten (10) years’ experience in a leadership role in a College or University environment.
- Expert knowledge of the Tertiary Education Sector
- Knowledge of Student Administration policies and procedures
- Proven track record in Academic Research, and Faculty and Student Administration
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- A team player
