Immaculata Visitation Teachers’ College (IVTC) was established in 2000 in Kabwe with a vision of becoming a reputable training institution making a contribution to the training and supply of highly motivated and skilful teachers for schools in Zambia and beyond.

Mission
Our guiding principle: sharing knowledge and skills to those less able.  Immaculata Visitation Teachers’ College will endeavour to train teachers for schools who will effectively motivate their own pupils to learn and attain high levels of literacy in reading, writing and numeracy, by creating a lively and friendly pupil-centred classroom atmosphere.

Core values
The core values of the College are based on Christian principles, which are exemplified in the personality of Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ: sharing, service, honesty, integrity, morality, hard work, charity and LOVE.

College management and administration
Management at the College is ultimately responsible for creating an environment and culture that is conducive to the attainment of the College’s vision. Part of this responsibility lies in determining the mission, values, goals, objectives, strategies and policies that will safeguard and promote this vision.

IVTC prides itself on its sound and transparent management that is provided by the College Directors:

The administration of the College is headed by the Principal Mr E.M. Malubila and his Vice Mr Shila Chama. In addition, there is a Registrar, an Assistant Registrar, a College Chaplain, a Librarian and an Accountant as well as Heads of Departments to assist with the administration. Administrators are supported by 53 highly qualified lecturers.

Departments
IVTC has various departments catering for the education needs of the students, including Social Sciences, Physical Education, Languages, Natural Sciences, Library Technology, Home Economics, School Chaplaincy, Business Studies and Education.

Facilities
The Library is committed to supporting excellence in Teaching, Learning and Research by providing relevant reading material, i.e. books and e-resources that support current courses being offered to its end-users. The continuous acquisition of new books has boosted the Library collection. The Library’s book purchasing is guided by its Collection Development Policy, spending termly K20 000 on library books. The library is also equipped with computers.

The College intends to equip all 53 lecture rooms with overhead projectors and audio/video equipment along with the traditional whiteboard and worksheets to encourage lecturers to use as many audio and video materials, such as video clips and other interactive academic materials, to make the process of learning pleasant and more effective.

Laboratories
St Joseph Science Laboratory Building houses the Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural laboratories which are adequately equipped and stocked with chemicals for lecture delivery and student practicals (experiments).  The capacity of each laboratory is 50 students at teaching session.

Sports and recreation facilities
Football, volleyball, basketball and track events (athletics) are enjoyed by both students and staff on the College’s sporting grounds. College clubs add to the recreation list.

Hostels
The College facilitates students’ accommodation needs by working closely with various landlords who supplement the College’s lodging efforts. Plans are under way to construct additional student hostels to increase student accommodation capacity.

Distance learning
Studying with us is a rewarding experience. Our flexible approach offers a range of study options from studying full-time with local support, to distance or part-time (evening) studying, to combine work with studies.

College fees
The affordable College Fees can be paid in two installments per term. Foreign students are welcome, as long as they have 5 ’O’ Levels (including English Language), a study permit and meet all other immigration laws of Zambia.

Students
The College admits male and female students who meet the stipulated entry qualifications of at least 5 ‘O’ Levels and English Language. Students come to enroll at the College from all over Zambia because of its modern facilities and because IVTC is now the most popular private teacher training institution in Zambia.

Since 2012, the student population has increased from 347 to 1,597 in 2015. In 2016 the increase is expected to be 650 for first year students.

IVTC has produced 639 graduates (teachers) since 2012 broken down as follows:

  • 2012 – 154

  • 2014 – 69
  • 2015 – 208

IVTC, with its quality Assurance Committee, works hard with the Copperbelt University Board of Studies to maintain quality learning and quality teaching to produce quality results. For these and other quality factors, the College won the BID International Crown Quality Award on 22 November 2015 in London in the Gold category.

Way forward
In 2015 IVTC embarked on its transformation into a University and will offer degree programmes in education and business studies in April 2016.

IVTC accepts applications for both local and international students.  Application forms may be obtained in person from the College or may be downloaded.
