Activities

The Trust invests in primary and secondary education and initial and continuing teacher education across the Commonwealth.

Initiatives it has invested in include the following.

  • The Centre for Commonwealth Education, a collaboration between the Faculty of Education within the University of Cambridge and the Commonwealth Education Trust. Projects are designed to build sustainable capacity and improve the quality of schooling in Commonwealth countries in the areas of school leadership, pedagogical expertise, and initial and continuing teacher education; and encompass ongoing initiatives in leadership, health education, information and communication technologies, gender equity and literacy.
  • The LOOK Study, being undertaken by a Commonwealth Education Trust subsidiary company in Australia. This is a five-year longitudinal study of 850 children in Canberra, with half receiving special physical education instruction from specialists coming into the school each week and half continuing with the normal practice of receiving physical education instruction from their classroom teachers. The study is designed to investigate the impact of primary school physical education and physical activity on the health and academic attainment of the children.
