Research in Trinidad and Tobago
There are several higher education institutions and independent research institutes in Trinidad and Tobago involved in undertaking research across many disciplines. Notable among these are the National Institute for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (NIHERST), which undertakes various research initiatives with a specific emphasis on technology; the Research and Development Facility (RDF), which seeks to stimulate innovative and advanced technology for businesses through research initiatives and investment; and other more traditional research organisations such as the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute, the School of Business and Computer Science, the National Library and Information System Authority, and the St Augustus Campus of the regional University of the West Indies and the University of Trinidad and Tobago. A number of academic scholarships for postgraduate study and research are available to citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, funded directly by the government.
