Civil Society in Mauritius
There are several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) working in the Mauritian education sector and over 30 private organisations that deliver tertiary-level programmes. The Electoral Education and Citizen Participation – in collaboration with the Electoral Institute of Southern Africa – assists with education and training. The Mauritius Council of Social Service (MACOSS) has over 220 affiliated members working in different fields, with education being one of its primary fields. Children’s rights have been a major preoccupation of NGOs in the country, and Save the Children has done significant work in this area.
